It’s official!  As of now, you can head over to Build.Kiva and begin shaping the future of this amazing micro-lending site.  Kiva is calling out for all interested and dedicated developers to join their community and develop digital tools to promote the cause of lending to needy third world entrepreneurs.

“We created the Kiva API so that anyone with a good idea and some software savvy can help us expand the reach of Kiva, taking it into new environments and to new audiences, and creating new features for the Kiva community to experience our content in new ways. True to the name of our developer destination, we want you to help us build Kiva.org.”

So what does this mean for the average Kiva user, and how will the affect your experience?  Well here is an initial vision from some of the early adopters of this API application:

• an application for iPhone or Blackberry that let’s you keep up with Kiva on the go
• a service where lenders can register for alerts on new entrepreneurs they want to fund
• integration into a social network where friends can engage around each others’ activity and loan updates on Kiva
